Privacy & AI
How Writing Desk's AI works, and what does (and doesn't) leave your machine.
No. Writing Desk's AI assists editorially, with feedback, analysis, and suggestions, but it never generates or writes your prose for you.
Your manuscript is stored locally. You can back it up to iCloud or Google Drive if you like, but Writing Desk never uploads or backs up your file on your behalf, so it stays under your control. The one exception is the Formatter. Since it runs in your browser, you'll need to upload your manuscript to use it, and you can delete it at any time.
Writing Desk calls the Anthropic API transiently, sending your chapter content and any resource notes you've marked as shareable for context, and receives an answer back. Nothing is stored on our side.
No. Nothing is stored or used to train AI models at any point. Your writing is your own, and every AI call is transient.
The Anthropic API.
Yes.
Writing Desk will never generate prose on your behalf. Its AI features give you high-level, structural, editorial feedback to help you spot what you can't see anymore in your own draft, so you can improve your prose your way.
